COVID-19 Vaccine Information from GADA Canada
In consultation with our Professional Advisory Board Chair, Dr. Maral Ouzounian and GADA’s Director, Dr. Eric Coomes, Infectious Diseases, GADA strongly recommends that all approved groups get vaccinated against COVID-19.
Individuals with cardiovascular disease are at elevated risk from complications of COVID-19 infection. The potential benefits of COVID-19 vaccination significantly outweigh potential risks for patients with genetic aortic diseases.
It is also very important to note that all available COVID-19 vaccines do not interfere with commonly prescribed medications for our patients with genetic aortic diseases, such as ACE inhibitors, ARBs, and beta-blockers.
Dr. Eric Coomes is a physician specializing in infectious diseases and has spent the past year caring for countless patients with COVID-19. Vaccination is a critical tool in our efforts to control the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Coomes genuinely believes that the vaccine is safe and effective and has personally taken the vaccine. When vaccines become available to the public, Dr. Coomes will vaccinate his own family. Please get vaccinated to protect yourself and our communities.
Patients with questions regarding the risks of any particular vaccine, pertaining to their existing condition, should discuss the details with their primary care physician.
Prevent COVID-19 Spread: Even after vaccination, continue to follow public health guidelines to prevent ongoing spread, including:
Wear a mask/facial covering in public spaces, especially when indoors.
